1. What did you do in 2024 that you'd never done before?

Went to see Judas Priest!

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Didn't make any and probably won't make any for next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth, get married or engaged?

The few friends we have who are around our age are all married now so this question is probably redundant going forward.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

We broke our tradition of only going to the UK and Holland this year by going to France.

6. What would you like to have in 2025 that you lacked in 2024?

More social interaction.

7. What dates from 2024 will remain etched upon your memory?

None really come to mind.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Even more major breakthroughs with my guitar technique. I think this is probably the most progress I've made with guitar from one year to the next. I learnt to sweep pick which is one of those techniques that always seemed unattainable for the longest time. I also learnt to play the solo from Bark at the Moon which feels like a pretty significant milestone.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Nothing specific comes to mind.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I bought this OWON DGE2035 function generator to replace the XR2206 function generator kit I built in 2021 which was fine but just a bit fiddly for more frequent use.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

No-one springs to mind.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Personne ne springez au cerveaux.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Definitely food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Similarly to last year it was probably breakthroughs with my guitar playing.

16. What song/album will always remind you of 2024?

Probably Set You Free by Black Label Society.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Definitely happier.

ii. thinner or fatter? Definitely thinner. At the beginning of 2024 I restarted the Commando Workout I used to do when I was a teenager and lost quite a bit of weight. I've definitely put some of it back on during the winter months but I think that's hard to avoid.

iii. richer or poorer? Richer. I got promoted and now have some meaningless title like "technical lead."

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Socializing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Avoiding social interaction.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

At tobli's mum's house.

21. Is there a particularly memorable meal you had?

I did have an entire Pyrex dish full of French buttercream but I'm not sure if this is what the question is getting at.

22. Did you fall in love in 2024?

I've been in love with tobli since 2017.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

I didn't really start anything new this year. I've still got to work my way through the remaining seasons of 24 as well as season 1 of Yu-Gi-Oh which I started re-watching recently.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I would honestly struggle to say that I actually "hate" anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?

Fire and Blood by George R^2 Martin. It was probably the fastest I've read a book of that length.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I don't listen to much rap so I decided to give this a go.

28. What did you want and get?

Monster guitar-shredding abilities (sort of joking but sort of not.)

29. What did you want and not get?

The opportunity to play my guitar in front of other humans :(

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Probably Conclave.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old are you now?

Went for a 6 course tasting menu with accompanying wines which has become the standard way to celebrate birthdays over the past few years. 31.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Having the opportunity to play my guitar in front of other humans.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2024?

Wearing clothes that are probably too big for me but also not wanting to buy smaller sizes in case I put on weight again.

34. What kept you sane?

Doing new things.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you like the most?

Very out-of-pocket answer but I like Zendaya and her choice of a male partner who is shorter than her.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

It's pretty rubbish that Trump got re-elected but at least we got rid of the Tories.

37. Whom did you miss?

No-one really.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Maybe the husband of the lady who conducts the amateur orchestra that tobli and I sometimes perform in.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2024.

I think I've gotten at least a little bit better at not procrastinating.
